Wine: "Wine is as good as life to a man, if it be drunk moderately: what is life to a man that is without wine?" (Sirach 31:27) A glass or two of red wine every day is a heart-healthy measure, scientific tests have shown.
If it were not for brown bag tastings, we probably never would have tried this wine; a lot of these new trying-too-hard labels tend to suggest sugary grape juice. That is not the case with this Washington State beauty. From first taste to the last glass, "House Wine" drinks like a big, elegant Old World food wine---and one that's closer to a $100 bottle of wine than the $12.00 you will pay at most fine wine stores. At that price it is a gift. Out of over 500 wine tasters more than two thirds of them chose this as their chosen wine for the night. Even a $100 bottle of Wine will not get that many to agree it is the one they prefer...try it for yourself in a blind tasting and see for yourself.
It was ranked #3 out of 135 heavy New World reds under $15...grapes available are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec. My personal favorite is Syrah which goes well with what else, steak.
In the book, "The Wine Trials" written of course by an attorney, Robin Goldstein, which every wine drinker should have, they say on the nose it is a little bit stinky, Old-World-style, though it has some nice cooked red fruit. While others said it was leathery with some earthy aromas.
The taste was beautiful; a dead ringer for a high-priced Bordeauz, but with less astringency than you would find in France, so it is ready to drink now.
Do not sell yourself short by not trying this House Red...

These are considered heavy new world red wines under $15.00.
Rank #2 of 135 heavy new world reds under $15 is a Petite Sirah which is my personal favorite. It goes well with a juicy Porterhouse steak.
This big red wine's back label will tell you that Concannon, which was founded in 1883 "along California's Central Coast of California, and it was"the world's first winery to bottle Petite Sirah." It's a food wine, to be sure, and unashamed of its masculine, aggressive style. Although the price scrapes against the upper end of our spectrum, it's a better bargain if you measure by the pound---the bottle seems to weigh twice as much as others.
Nose Blind tasters found licorice and a woodsy smell.
Mouth Black pepper, solid tannins, and savory notes led our blind tasters to think this wine was far more expensive than it is.
An uninformed or most of the time even and informed guest could think it was a $25.00 bottle of wine.

How to Get Great Wine at Box-Wine Prices...It will pay to know the difference between "low cost" wine and "inexpensive" wine. The best way to find out which ones are inexpensive is through brown bag blind wine tastings.
There is a secret known to nearly everyone in the wine industry and hardly anyone outside of it; Expensive wines are not necessarily the best wine, and inexpensive wines are not necessarily a bad buy.
In fact, some of the finest wines in the world can be bought for amazingly low prices...in some cases, not much more than what you'd expect to pay for box wine.
Five key reasons why you could save thousands of dollars over the year or years.
1. Sometimes it is a surprise. With perfect weather conditions or some other stroke of good luck, wineries occasionally find they have an unexpected masterpiece on their hands. When it happens before they have a chance to boost their prices, you get an inexpensive bottle that is amazingly good.
2. Sometimes it is simply supply and demand. Even though a recent vintage may taste superb, it takes a long time for the word to filter down to the average wine buyer. In the meantime, the price can remain low because the demand is low.
3. Sometimes it is a marketing trick or faux pas. Like clothing stories will sell the exact same item under "brand names" and "off brand" names, "wineries will do the same with wine under an expensive label and an in-expensive label. The best way to find this out is through brown bag blind wine tastings.
4. Sometimes it is a fluke...for example the importer goes bankrupt.
5. Sometimes it is a clearance sale. Wineries are like any other business with an inventory. Sometimes they have too much old stock that has to be cleared out to make room for the newer wine. So they reduce the prices and smart buyers end up with a quality wine at a lower price.
In-expensive wines are a good buy for 75% of the population...and you can find out if that is true for you through blind brown bag tastings in the privacy of your home or a brown bag blind wine tasting party.
My favorite red table wine is Syrah Organic by Orleans Hill...$8.99 a bottle. Now I know there are 25% of the people out there that will disagree with me and they would be right for themselves. We all have our own preferences, etc. but the majority of us will enjoy an in-expensive bottle of wine just as much as an expensive $150 bottle of wine. I promise you that I am right. Try it for yourself and you will know I am right as well.
